Rugby can make a significant difference in the lives of children and young people, particularly those who are disabled. Wooden Spoon is dedicated to promoting the development of both Tag Rugby and Inclusive/Mixed Ability Rugby for these individuals.
Playing rugby helps all players build confidence, learn new skills, and create bonds of friendship. It provides a supportive and caring environment that fosters character development and instills important traits such as resilience, empathy, fairness, loyalty, and perseverance.
Wooden Spoon aims to provide disability tag and mixed ability rugby teams the chance to tour and represent their clubs in a safe and supportive setting. We are committed to supporting clubs and schools that offer opportunities to play Tag and Inclusive Rugby.
We are also dedicated to continue funding and delivering an annual rugby festival, bringing together players, parents, and carers to celebrate the positive impact of rugby. Last autumn, we launched our Disability Tag Appeal for children and young people living with disabilities.
Thanks to your incredible support, the Wooden Spoon International Tag Festival took place on 22 June 2024, at Broadstreet RFC in Coventry. This inclusive event welcomed teams from near and far, allowing them to experience the excitement and challenges of a rugby tour.
This festival in 2024 marked the beginning of a broader initiative to uplift and expand the disability rugby community across the UK and Ireland. Thank you for being part of this inspiring journey.
